Native Vegetation Group

ABOUT

The Native Vegetation Group is a volunteer group that aims to protect and enhance the native vegetation on our 14 hectares of shared common land

Our aim is to:

  • ensure a healthy habitat for local native wildlife (eg. birds, reptiles, mammals etc.)
  • maintain and enhance the quality of the bushland and parkland for the benefit and enjoyment of residents

The group meets for an hour each week on Friday mornings starting 8 am or 9am.

Any-one interested is always welcome to join in.

Please contact:

Margaret Butt – NVG coordinator 0467 304 755 or

Derek Pendavingh – HP Parklands coordinator 0400 867 087

Activities include:

  • Weed and Rabbit control
  • Eucalypt regrowth control – following previous environmental thinning
  • Cool burns for cultural, fire hazard reduction and native plant enhancement
  • Occasional planting of small local species to re-establish ‘missing’ local species
  • Monitoring of nest boxes (Turquoise parrots and Squirrel gliders)
  • Field events such as birdwatching, native plant and wildlife walk & talks.

Hamilton Park’s common land is becoming well known in the Northeast for the quality of its local native plants. Of special interest is the variety of native grasses and small ground cover species, often missing these days in smaller native vegetation patches

Our guide for the work we do is the Hamilton Park Common Land Management Plan (2020).
