HAMILTON PARK HONOURS A WORTHY RECIPIENT.
A strong sense of community was evident among residents who gathered in the Hamilton Park community area to celebrate Australia Day and enjoy a hearty breakfast cooked by members of the community.
The highlight of our breakfast “Under the Gum Trees” this year was the presentation of the Hamilton Park 2022 Local Achiever Award presented by Councillor Dave Fuller to Peter Janas. Peter and his wife Ros were joined by their daughters Meg and Erin to celebrate the occasion. Erin who lives in Melbourne arrived in time for breakfast to surprise her father, who still had not realised that he would soon be the centre of attention!
Councillor Dave Fuller said “It was special for me to get back out in communities and be present today especially with the connection I have with Peter. To see 40 odd people here is a fantastic turnout in that sense, a perfect day, and wonderful back drop for such an event’.
Peter and his wife Ros are long term residents of the Park, building their home in Grants Estate in the late 70’s. In the early days Peter helped build the original tennis courts, now the Sports Hub, was a member of the Hamilton Park tennis club. Hamilton Park Estate and Grants estate were established within a few years of each other in the early 70s Peter was responsible for pulling down the fence that separated the two estates.
Peter has also been actively involved in the maintenance and improvement of the Fifteen Mile Creek pumping system. His mechanical skills have been invaluable to contribution to the Board, with a background as a fitter and turner nothing seems to faze him. He seems to have a solution to many of our maintenance problems.
Peter has supported the maintenance of our aging water infrastructure system over a number of years. His other contributions include; helping with the grassland mowing program, the bushland thinning program this year, monitoring of the bushland fire fuel moisture ratings to provide input to CFA over summer, fixing small machinery and improvements to the fire hydrants in Hamilton Park.
He unselfishly gives his time, his experience and skills to our community so we can enjoy the benefits of living in this great place. Peter is a worthy recipient of the Hamilton Park Achiever Award.
